Co-worker calls Tracy.
M: Hi Tracy, this is Mary Rose, Erika’s co-woker. You are listed as Erika’s emergency contact. I just wanted to let you know that she sliced off her ring finger. Can you come get her or should we call an ambulance? She’s in shock right now and I can’t get anything out of her.
T: I can’t get her! I’m about to have a tennis game!
M: Does she have insurance?
T: Yes!
M: Do you want us to save the finger?
T: Yes! Save the finger!!!
M: Now, do you know her status on DNR: Do Not Resuscitate?
T: …uh…I don’t know! Oh my God!
M: All right, now there’s someone who needs to speak with you.
Hands phone to me.
E: So how would you feel if I really lost a finger?
T: What? You didn’t really slice it off?! NOT FUNNY NOT FUNNY NOT FUNNY NOT FUNNY NOT FUNNY NOT FUNNY!!!!!!!
The jealousy monster. I’m not immune to the feeling. My jealousy has heart. She can be an angry little thing with horns. But all she needs is acceptance as a real feeling, not something to be ashamed of.
I made a list of the things that make me happy, the little things I enjoy out of life and then I have to make those things happen. At the end of the list is: Tracy comes home. But until then…

KATIE AND ORBIE!!!
Sometimes I forget. I forget that cruelty continues to exist because sometimes people just let it. Apathy is cruelty. And when you just stand there letting something like this happen, you are a part of that cycle of cruelty that will continue until people start realizing that this is wrong. Open your eyes and know that injustice exists every day, everywhere, and take a stand.
